Serial killer Ted Bundy famously managed to escape from prison a total of two times. On June 7th, 1977, after being transferred to Pitkin County Courthouse in Aspen for a preliminary hearing, he asked to visit the courthouse’s law library to research his case, as he was acting as his own defense. Due to this, the judge exempted him from having to wear handcuffs or leg shackles. Ted took advantage of this and escaped through a window hidden behind a bookcase, spraining his ankle upon landing. He trekked through the woods, stealing food from campers and cabins. He was caught six days later after stealing a car and driving recklessly due to exhaustion and his ankle injury.
Ted was thrown back into jail, but he still wasn’t too keen on staying behind bars and waiting for his trial and began plotting his next escape. He focused on losing weight, which didn’t arouse much suspicious from the guards. A cold, calculating individual, he obtained a hack saw and floor plan of the jail, and acquired $500 worth of cash smuggled in by various visitors. On December 30th, 1977, Ted cut a hole into the ceiling of his cell after making his bed to appear as though he were asleep. He managed to fit through the hole, having lost 35 pounds. Ted used the crawl space to reach the chief jailer’s apartment and changed into his clothes. After that, he simply walked out the door. His absence wasn’t discovered until 17 hours later, and by then he had already stolen a car and taken a plane to Chicago. When Ted Bundy was finally recaptured in Miami two months after his escape, he had killed three women.

Nothing gets me more motivated to watch TWOTL than listening to Love Crime… it’s like every time I listen to it I immediately have to set aside 42 minutes, 48 seconds, plus emotional prep time to watch Hannibal & Will skirt around their feelings for old times sake while maintaining a flirty nonchalance until finally confessing their love through a very bloody murder dance.
