it’s probably my own fault for checking buzzfeed but it’s so interesting the contexts in which mainstream progressive publications want to actually use the word lesbian 🔍👀
“queer women”
“lesbian porn”
I mean I get what you’re saying but maybe they were including bi and pan women as well? I mean there are bi people who watch lesbian porn. But when same sex couples bang in porn it’s not called queer porn it’s either gay or lesbian (unless there’s a bi threesome). That’s just how it’s labeled. I’m more worried as to who this article is targeted to. Is it for other queer women or just pervy dudes looking to sexualize lesbians??
All of you saying “but they were asking bi women too, not just lesbians” are totally missing the point. It’s not just about who they were asking.
Girl on girl porn is commonly labeled as lesbian porn by the straight men that it’s made by and for, so what kind of defense is that? And since when has something being labeled as lesbian ever stopped non-lesbians from calling it anything else?
Non-lesbians have no problem coming up with a thousand different terms to refer to media and characters that are specifically labeled as lesbian by the content creators. And they do this with real life lesbians! Actual living, breathing lesbian women who are out as lesbians are rarely accorded the respect of being referred to as lesbians in liberal media publications. Instead they get called vague descriptors like “wlw” or “lgbtq women,” or worse, “queer women.” But when it comes to f/f porn that more often than not features non-lesbian women awkwardly fucking each other, and does not represent the sexuality of actual lesbians, suddenly non-lesbians are comfortable using the word “lesbian”…and that makes it glaringly obvious how non-lesbians view lesbians.
